TESTIMONIALS

In only a short amount of time, the Food Security Network has made a large impact on both schools and disadvantaged people within our community.

The supportive and extremely positive feedback we regularly receive from teachers, students and food security agencies only bolsters our determination and belief in the services we provide.

" This project allowed my students to work with purpose and determination to help people in the community. "

“It was a great experience for the students. The practical skills they gained - preparing soil, planting, caring for plants and harvesting - is something they can take with them for ever. Growing our crop in concrete planter boxes was also a great lesson, showing that even in inner city areas or on small areas of land you can produce a substantial crop that can feed many people… I really liked the social justice aspect and the way it was delivered.”

“I loved it. The program was so well rounded and complemented our practical curriculum brilliantly. I would highly recommend the program.”

"By growing and learning about vegetables and the important part they play in a persons diet I have gained empathy towards all of the people who dont have access to basic healthy foods. People who are put in situations where they dont have enough money to purchase necessities and supplies need our help to get by each day. It felt really good to provide something so essential to someones welfare."

“The project made us think more of others and was 100% worthwhile.”

“I was impressed with the harvest, I didn’t think we would be able to grow so much!”

“It felt like we were doing something really positive.”

"Growing vegetables in food tech helped me understand why healthy eating and nutrition is important in our lives, as we usually just take it for granted. It was good to see that a little help goes a long way and how much little things are appreciated".

“Growing and delivering food for the Asylum Seekers has been an eye-opening experience. I have realised how lucky I am to go home every day and know that I am going to eat dinner. Even though growing a couple plants doesn’t make a big difference to the world, I feel like I have made a difference in at least one person’s life and I am grateful for that feeling."

“I will definitely try growing food at home.”

"Working with the Food Security Network was a great hands on experience for our students. The students were so excited to deliver their harvest to FareShare and were buzzing about it afterwards. Chris worked patiently with our students to establish garden beds and see our crop through to the harvest date."

My year 9 food technology students have participated in the Food Security Network's education program for the past two years. The program allows our students to actively engage in solving the increasing problem of food insecurity in Australia. The practical food production aspect of the the program marries in well with our 'paddock to plate' teaching model and the insightful social justice teachings compliment our schools strong focus on supporting those in the community who need assistance.

"The program is incredibly comprehensive and gives students knowledge about everything from soil science and growing a garden through to the social issues affecting our local community, while helping in an effective way. I look forward to working with TFSN again in the future and would recommend this program to any school group looking for a meaningful project for their VCAL program, food studies or ethics classes."
